If you’re tight and stiff…like all over (like me sometimes), then we’re carrying A LOT of tension in our bodies. And most likely, we're not even aware of it. In the long term, it creates a lot of wear and tear in our system, which is just not sustainable.
Most aches, pains, mobility, and movement issues are made WORSE if we produce too much TENSION while we move. (Zac Cupples, 2024).
Same is true when we’re not moving—standing, sitting, or even when STRESS LEVELS are HIGH. And to increase SPACE in our body…aka improve our RANGE OF MOTION…we need to be as FLUID as possible while we do so.
So, what I have for you today is a movement that can really help teach our body how to produce LESS TENSION when we move.
As always, use this as a DAILY PRACTICE. Whether it’s RECOVERY from an INTENSE WORKOUT, to help FALL ASLEEP, or help MANAGE STRESS LEVELS.
We’re just gonna MOVE and FEEL BETTER for it.
Here’s what you’re gonna need:
-Clear/Comfortable/Quiet space
-Something for your head/neck
-Foam Roller
-Timer
PERFORMANCE KEYS:
-Set timer from anywhere from 2-5 minutes (MORE time = LESS TENSION)
-FULL MOUTH EXHALE at the start to help you get heavy into position
-QUIETLY NASAL BREATHE throughout (4-6 count for INHALE and EXHALE)
-Move STUPIDLY SLOW!
🔑 MOVE with as LITTLE TENSION and EFFORT as HUMANLY POSSIBLE!
💥 If it feels like you’re doing nothing… you’re doing it RIGHT! You’re learning to move with LESS TENSION!
Here’s what you’re gonna do:
-Lie on your RIGHT SIDE FIRST. Head/Neck comfortable.
-Foam roller in front of you with your TOP LEG/ARM resting on it as demonstrated.
-SLOWLY log roll your body back and forth
-HEAD, CHEST, TORSO, and LEG move as ONE UNIT.
🔥If you feel a STRETCH…STOP ✋ You’ve gone too far!
DAILY PRACTICE: 2-5 minutes EACH SIDE
💡 REMEMBER…if we want to move and feel better as we age, we need to INTELLIGENTLY RESET our bodies with DAILY PRACTICE.
Dedicated to your health and longevity,
Mike
