Change

According to "The Five Things We Cannot Change and the Happiness We Find Embracing Them," author David Richo lists the following: 1) Everything changes and ends 2) Things do not always go according to plan (how about 2020 everyone!) 3) Life is not always fair 4) Pain is a part of life 5) People are not loving and loyal all the time That's a lot to digest. But this list has rung true for me since it was published in 2005. I find myself constantly reminding myself of all five on a regular basis and now more than ever. Think about it...These are inescapable "givens" of our experience. Frame it however you wish. Look at our current year, 2020. Chaos happens. Things aren't always fair. Life can be painful. And people do behave in ways we don't want them to. How does this apply to our training and longevity? Simply put, as we age our bodies change, even let us down, disappoint us from time to time even. I know mine does ;) And it sucks. But it requires us to change! Because change requires change. Whaaat? Albert Einstein once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." If you're not getting the results you want and you're chronically fatigued, sore, tight, even hurt, what you're doing or not doing isn't working. And it's not about good or bad. Maybe what you're currently doing is not in line with what you need and what your goals are. I won't lie. REAL change is HARD. It's intimidating. Confusing at times. If your anything like me, overwhelming at times. Because it isn't what you NORMALLY do. It forces us to change habits. To really change our way of thinking about things and doing things. It forces us to go outside of what feels SAFE. Being comfortable, uncomfortable is what real change is all about. I've always said this. ACCEPT this notion and the entire process becomes less daunting. Accepting that change is hard and it sucks helps us to manage our expectations and then we can commit to the process. Embrace the SUCK!
