BREATHE your way to EASIER MOVEMENT

In order to move and feel better, our body needs to CHANGE SHAPE. And breathing is the fundamental way our body does just that…shape change.

Here’s what I mean…we LITERALLY get bigger when we breathe in, and smaller when we breathe out.

As we age, our training priority should be to literally EXPAND ourselves…because as we get older we “naturally” contract. So, we need to create actual space for ourselves, in order to move well.

💡 Think getting stronger, building muscle, and doing what we want to do everyday. In my practice, I’ve noticed that the folks who experience persistent pain are usually the ones struggling to breathe correctly as well. Coincidence?? Nope!

So, what I have for you today is a breathing strategy that allows our body to expand.

Here’s what you’re gonna need:

-Clear/Comfortable/Quiet space

-Something for your head and neck

Here’s what you’re gonna do:

-Lie on your back comfortably. Head and neck comfortable.

-Place one hand on your chest and one on your stomach.

-Tongue to the roof of your mouth, just behind your teeth. Flat as possible.

-Gently close your lips.

-Comfortably lift your chin.

🫁Breathing mechanics:

-SILENT, SLOW NASAL INHALE: 5 count (You should not hear yourself!)

-OPEN MOUTH SOFT EXHALE: 5 count

💡Pretend you’re FOGGING UP a glass right in front of your face when exhaling.

PRACTICE: 5-10 minutes DAILY

Notice how you move and feel afterward. Better? Same? Different?

💡REMEMBERREAL CHANGE requires an investment of time, effort, and consistency on our part. It’s not always doing what’s appealing…but what’s NECESSARY.

Dedicated to your health and longevity,

Mike
